Best Practices for Canceling or Deleting Your CircleCI Account

Overview

If you're moving away from CircleCI, following these steps in the correct order will ensure a clean break from the platform, stopping any further charges to your organization and removing your data from CircleCI.

Skipping steps or completing them out of sequence — particularly disconnecting your VCS early — can lock you out of the pages you need to complete the process.

Follow the steps below before leaving the platform.

Step 1 — Review and use your remaining credits

Before canceling, go to your CircleCI UI plan page and check how many credits remain on your account.

As noted in our Refund Policy, purchased credits are non-refundable. Any unused credits will be forfeited when your plan is canceled, so we recommend running your pipelines to make use of your remaining balance before proceeding.

Step 2 — Cancel your subscription

An org admin must cancel the subscription directly from the CircleCI UI before taking any further steps.

⚠️ Important: Do not disconnect your VCS (GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.) before completing this step. Disconnecting your VCS will remove your access to the plan settings page, and you will be unable to cancel from the UI.

To cancel your plan:

1. In the CircleCI UI, navigate to the Billing tab.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Looking to cancel your plan?"
3. From the dropdown, select "Cancel Plan".

📌 Please note: Any unused credits will be forfeited upon cancellation and are not eligible for a refund.

4. Follow the remaining prompts to confirm your cancellation.

Your account will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle. The exact end date will be displayed on the cancellation confirmation screen.

Step 3 — Delete your organization 

If you'd like to fully remove your organization from CircleCI, make sure your paid plan has been canceled first (Step 2) before proceeding.

⚠️ Important: Do not disconnect your VCS (GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.) before completing this step. You must retain VCS access to reach the organization settings page.

To delete your organization:

1. Navigate to Organization Settings > Overview.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Delete Org.

Step 4 — Delete your user account
