Understanding User Charges Across CircleCI Plans

Overview

CircleCI charges for active users differently depending on your plan type. This article covers how user billing works on both the Performance Plan and Annual Committed Plans (Scale and Custom).

Performance Plan

The Performance Plan includes 5 active users for free. If your team grows and you have more than 5 active users, you will be charged for each additional user beyond those first five.

How Additional Users Are Charged

  • Each additional user costs 25,000 credits, which is equal to $15 USD.
  • These credits act as seat tokens, giving each additional user access to CircleCI during your billing cycle.
  • This charge is a one-time cost per billing cycle for each additional user seat.
  • You can see how many active users you currently have by going to the Usage tab in the CircleCI dashboard.

Example:

If your organization has 8 active users, you have 3 users beyond the 5 free ones.
Your charge will be:
3 additional users × 25,000 credits = 75,000 credits

Performance Plan Annual Committed Plans 

For customers on annual committed plans, each active user including unregistered users, counts toward your monthly active user total. Unlike the Performance Plan, annual committed plans do not include 5 free active users. All active users are billed according to your plan's credit rate from the start.

Custom Plan 25,000 credits/user/month

Billing Cycle and User Seat Reset

For customers on all paid plans (Performance, Scale, and Custom), your billing cycle begins on the day you first sign up for a paid CircleCI plan. For example, if you sign up on July 15, your billing cycle will run from July 15 to August 14.

At the start of each new billing cycle, your count of active user seats resets automatically, and charges for users are calculated based on your usage during the new cycle.

How Billing Works

  • The cost for extra users is automatically deducted from your credits balance.

  • There is no separate billing process for these charges.

  • Please ensure your credits balance is sufficient to cover any new or additional users.

Viewing Active Users:

  1. Navigate to the Plan Page
    Open your CircleCI app and click on the Plan page.

  2. View Usage Details
    Click on the Usage tab to view your current usage for this billing cycle. This includes details such as compute credits, user seats, storage, and more.

  3. Understand User Billing
    In the User section, the first 5 users are free. If you're on the Performance Plan, each additional user will be charged 25,000 credits.

4. View Active Users
To see the list of users, click on the USERS tab. Here, you'll find the names of all users and the date they were last active.
