Permission denied on a new pipeline when Block all new work is on

Block all new work stops every new pipeline, and the API reports Permission denied. Turn the switch off in project settings and in organization settings.

New pipelines stop when Block all new work is on. The web app, the CLI, and the API all report Permission denied. A new personal API token does not change that result. Signing in to your version control provider again does not change it either. The setting blocks pipeline creation. Reading the project still works.

These actions fail the same way:

  • A push or a pull request

  • Run pipeline in the web app

  • circleci pipeline run

  • POST /api/v2/project/.../pipeline

The response body is:

{"message":"Permission denied."}

Turn the block off

  1. Open Project Settings → Advanced.

  2. Turn off Block all new work from starting for this project.

  3. Open Organization Settings → Advanced.

  4. Turn off the organization switch with the same name. That switch overrides the project switch, so both switches must be off.

  5. Trigger a pipeline again from the web app, or with circleci pipeline run.

If a pipeline still does not appear, note the time of the attempt. Contact Support and include that time.
